Blog #1

From this reading I have noticed that I know a lot more about writing than I have previously thought. Although the reading has brought up a lot of new ideas and thoughts. I did know the structure of a written work. The whole thesis, body, and conclusion thing. When the topic of templates was brought up, the book discussed what I originally thought of them. They were for people looking for an easy way out and made then less creative. But the book showed me that the template for a certain thing might writing easier and will take your mind off the structure and make your content more creative.
While reading the text it was the first time I have ever hear of return sentences. At first glance it seemed like they stated the same thing but in different wording. But after reading the section a few times it became clear how such sentences make our point clearer by presenting what your point is without repeating yourself.
The section about following the person’s quotations in your own text showed some points that were already second nature to me but also some new ones. I knew that after quoting someone else work you need to go off and explain why that certain paraphrase goes along with your argument. The reading just made it cleared on how to do it in a better way. Like putting your own spin on their words and wording it in your own way makes it fit better into your work.
